Curtis Gans, director of the nonpartisan Committee for the Study of the American Electorate, said today that he expected a turnout of at least 118 million to 121 million, or 58 percent to 60 percent of the electorate, this year. "It could be higher," he said.
60% would be good. 70% would be unbelievable. Here is a turnout chart. 2000 had a 51% turnout. The highest in modern times: 62.8% - 1960, kennedy and nixon.
