You want to piss off anti-gay groups? Pass Civil Unions, which according to this, have a 60% popularity rating amongst Americans, if you include gay marriage supporters+civil union supporters. You let the die-hards on each side, those who won't budge on gay marriage and those who won't budge on banning gay marriage, frame the debate and you drag all the middle ground people into the loser category. Pass Civil Unions, and the only losers are the bigots.
