Political Parties Have Failed Us

Pre-9/11 the divisiveness and stupidity didn't really matter. Now it does.

No, it still doesn't matter. Let me go on the record as saying that Islamic fundamentalism is not a serious threat to America, and I'm tired of the people who want to puff up their chests and act tough and act all self-righteous. You are not serious, and your long-winded rhetoric only exposes the theater you are engaged in. Don't pretend like you are beyond political parties. You act like high school goths, in your own little self-congratulary clique that refuses to negotiate with the real world. Let's face it, our political parties are not serious because nothing is serious, and if you want to call me a moral relativist, fine.

?!?

I'm unclear what this comment is about.

a) Big claim - Islamic Fundamentalism is not a serious threat to America. Fair enough. Go on record, although a comment on Public Musings is probably not the best form of public record I can think of.

b) Thinking oneself beyond political parties is self righteous? So be it...I'll be self righteous if my belief choices are constrained to that of one political party or another. No one with half a brain thinks a party can speak on behalf of their beliefs completely...the balance is how far you associate with one, the other, or both.

c) Our political parties are not serious because nothing is serious? Is than an inroad towards a joke? Because, yeah, sure I'm down not to takes things so seriously....But it seems you're advocating everyone being much more serious about...ummm....what, again? What should we be taking more seriously? How should we be more serious?

It's not that i'd call you a moral relativist, I'd just say this post is rather confusing.

Wow, I'm sorry. I didn't intend to come off so belligerent. I was pretty drunk when I wrote that last night, not that such a state should let me off the hook.

I think what I was trying to say is that, unlike WWII, the threat posed by Islamic fundamentalism is not one that poses a threat to our existence, hence the continued silliness of our political parties. I don't like this notion that 9-11 changed everything.
Things were serious and silly before, and they are serious and silly now and probably will be so in the future.

My ire here is actually more directed towards people like Instapundit, who openly pine for a third party. This seems kind of like a dodge to me, a utopian fantasy.
