I'm Sure Republicans Do It Too
It's just that I tend to hang with all liberals...
Why is it if you have an opinion that doesn't conform with their position, the default assumption is that you've been fooled by the Republicans or fooled by Bush?
Is it that inconceivable for differing, intelligent, people to a) have different points of view or b) weigh different issues more and less heavily.

Fair enough. But if you trot out the rididiculous talking points of the Bush administration, be prepared for charges that you are being fooled by them. If you had an intelligent argument for torture, which maybe you do but I haven't seen it, then perhaps I wouldn't level such a charge at you.
My general anger on this issues stems from the fact that the Bush administration is counting on people like you, who should know better, to be too lazy to think the whole thing through. Otherwise they would be more clear with the fact that they advocate torture. Instead, they want to snow folks like you into thinking it's just a matter of procedure.
