Affirmative Action

It's looking like if we believe in affirmative action, we ought to be applying it to boys, who are doing worse and worse in school than women.

Men still make more money, on average, than women doing the same job. So really, I don't see what the big fuss is about.

affirmative action only opens the door to opportunity. it doesn't make the opportunity itself any better or fix any inherent problems within the education system.

check out "that will teach them" a UK reality series about forcing todays teens into a rigid 50s classroom experiment. what boys need is discipline! and lots of it ; )

robyn - do you mean, for instance, at spo? or just in general?

kidding. kind of. if you ask me, women doing the same job as men ought to be paid the same. that's fairly obvious. it seems like a separate issue, however, than how well one does in school.

a major issue, it seems to me, that is tough to get around is the whole having babies thing and how that impacts career advancement for woman.

and whatever, they should just do a study on affirmative action (it's been around 20+ years now) and see whether it's helped or hindered opportunity for the minority communities it was designed to help. if so, keep it. if not, well....
