I'm Still A Laker Hater, But

I must admit they are playing pretty damn well in these playoffs. They don't annoy me like they used to. Then again, I could probably score 20 points if they stuck me in against Phoenix's defense.

By the way, if Boston and LA make the finals and it is good series, will the NBA reevaluate the regular season? These are two teams who mailed it in on a lot of nights, disgusting their fans routinely, and then decide to turn it on during the playoffs and guess what - it works! Cleveland plays hard all during the regular season, giving their fans reason to love them, and then collapse in the playoffs. What gives? What is the point of the regular season?

The Lakers won the regular season title. The Cavs were the only team that looked better than them throughout the season. The Celtics are a bit of an aberration but also smart basketball - resting weary and injured players to get to the playoffs. If the Celtics were in the Western Conference this probably would not have been an option. You could look at the Spurs and say they had the same game plan and it worked really well for one series but ultimately they just weren't good enough - don't have a Rondo etc. The number of teams in the playoffs does benefit the best teams to a great degree though in being able to rest players down the stretch knowing they've got a spot locked up but I don't think you can discount the importance of the regular season.

i guess i notice it because i basically don't watch bball during the regular season because no one tries during 3 quarters of the games. and there seems to be something wrong with this. exceptions are cleveland and maybe teams like okc and the hawks and phoenix. i like watching highlights better than the games. then comes playoffs and the games themselves are awesome. i can't even bring myself to go to a movie when there's a half decent playoff game on because dammit, i want to see it live.
