Film: The Verdict

One can safely say, they don't make films like this anymore. Just an old fashioned man vs. world drama. Made in 1982, sort of had a lingering 70s American indy spirit fuming from it. Mamet and Lumet. Very clean filmmaking and story-telling. Slow first act. All builds up to massive payoffs in the 3rd Act. I wonder if that style of story-telling will return...today it is all trailer moments and 1st Act punch. 3rd Acts often are incomprehensible. Mamet spoke afterwards. Entertaining guy. One day I'm going to look at the list of the movies Lumet directed in the 1980s. I'm betting it holds up as a very cool, underrated 10 year period of a particular filmmaker's output.
