Film: Back to the Future

Kid watch. So enjoyable.

Film: Love in the Afternoon

Took me 5 nights to get through it. Wasn't bad...just...French.

TV: Succession S4

Just keeping up...

TV: Motherland S3

Like a lot of British shows - great quality writing and acting and then it sort of starts to peter out. Not sure why I find that to be common...maybe they don't have a deep bench of talent to keep things going at a high level?

The Woke Will Fold Faster Than The Memphis Grizzlies

CNN says there's a pushback against "woke."

The woke will fold when people with power stand up to them, mock them, and treat their ideas with the contempt they deserve. But that doesn't mean woke ideas die. They'll sit and fester and find a new form of expression and take advantage of new opportunities as they arise.

I Suspect the AIs

The Great Awokening is a global phenomenon and did not start in the US Press.

While I do think Russia, China, and other authoritarian regimes help spike the punch with wokeness - I doubt very much it is mostly a psych-ops operation. No way the authoritarian regimes are that savvy. Aliens or AIs most likely culprits.

Netflix Ending DVD Service

I shouldn't complain, I don't use Netflix DVDs right now. But reading the tea leaves...seems like Netflix is becoming more and more like a regular old tv network/studio. How long before consumers start canceling the various streaming services and GASP - we go back to the old bundle? 5 more years? So after all that "disruption" in under a decade, we're going to basically have good old fashioned cable tv (just over the internet) and mom and pop video stores where we can rent movies?

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

TV: Succession S4 E4

Shiv being pregnant feels like a rare misstep in the show...the type of story move a Shonda Rhimes staff would come up with.

Source Code of the West

The Chinese read the Iliad because they think of it as "the source code of the West."

They think higher of us than we do. I hope they are right. I think the main message that should be taken away: don't mess.

Intelligence Breach

They are going to arrest this 21-year video game kid and throw the book at him. But the real folks who deserve to go to jail are the ones who designed a system where 21-year old jackasses who get paid peanuts have access to sensitive intelligence. If I knew such folks had access to such information, I would've bet 10K it would end up on the internet at some point.

Film: Burn Out

Put it on to check our the first 30 minutes and ended up watching the whole thing. A French neo-noir about a motorcycle driver who gets wrapped up in the drug trade.

TV: Succession S3 E1-2 and Yellowjackets S2 E1-2

I thought Succession would run out of steam much earlier. Too many of the same type of scenes...this season feels like it has finally exhausted itself.

Think I'm out on shows/movies with cannibalism. Kinda weird it's become a cliche in a certain type of storytelling...what's wrong with us?

AI

I find AI exciting, but also worrisome. I believe keeping a low online footprint (no Facebook, Insta, etc) will prove out to be a smart choice. Do you trust a computer algorithm with all your data to do with it whatever the programmers and the rest of the world want? I certainly do not.

On the plane...

Film: The Gentleman

I preferred Wrath of Man, but a decent Guy Richie film is like comfort food.

Film: Michael Collins

The same movie today would never cast Julia Roberts as an Irish lass...and the same movie today would not have the same production value because of it.

Fun actors with small roles in the film: Brendan Gleeson, Charles Vance (Tywin Lannister), Johnathan Rhys Meyers

Doc: The Phenomenon

About Ronaldo - I either forgot or never knew about the panic attack before the World Cup Final in 1998. The knee doctors come across as very bad back then. Only got about 2/3 of the way through before the plane landed.

Film: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

One of the best hangout films in awhile and second only to Pulp Fiction in my QT hierarchy.
