The cortortions around the Claudine Gay story are fascinating. A new hot take: she plagiarized, but those who discovered the plagiarism are bad faith actors. Hmmm. That's an interesting angle. I wonder if Woodward and Bernstein were good guys - that's the real takeaway of Watergate isn't it?
The author here says the real target is DEI and diversity hiring. No shit sherlock! And she's some decent proof the system in place sucks. I don't mind someone defending diversity practices - but the case for a lot of this stuff got a lot weaker over this debacle. And someone needs to explain to me what's so bad faith about going after these unqualified college presidents? Seems to me folks ought to be happy someone is keeping an eye on the powerful - because it's clear the people who were supposed to - the board, faculty, and press were not.
