Really Shitty

From Andrew Sullivan about a family unable to afford healthcare for their kid and the terror they felt.

This is a pretty awful story, but seems avoidable. First off, I don't know what their financial situation was, but not being able to "afford" health for a very young child - yikes. As Chris Rock says, "you gotta get some insurance." I mean, what comes in front of that? Shelter, food, clothes, and then some health insurance for the kid. Cut off the internet and cable and the entertainment long before the healthcare, right? Am I wrong? Second off, the question here boils down to money. Fine, they are getting a decent deal through state health insurance. But doesn't that mean someone else is paying a percentage? And can we afford that? For how many people?
