My Biggest Beef

With each movie genre:

1. Westerns - a lot tend to be boring and dated.
2. Action Films - when bad guys motivations are shallow and unimaginative.
3. Romantic Comedies - when male characters are big pussies.
4. Musicals - too soft.
5. Dramas - when trying to make a political statement about a disadvantaged group
6. Adventure Films - when overly childish and not rooted in the real world.
7. Comedy - Too much. Comedy is best when restrained. There is a tendency in all forms of comedy to go for too much of whatever type of comedy. Apatow goes for too much poignancy. Sasha Baron Cohen too much discomfort, etc. The best stuff is when the talent is restrained or balanced by another force.
8. Crime/Gangster - voice over
9. Epics/Historical - too long
10. Horror - A lack of psychological motivation of characters
11. Sci-Fi - unbelievable technology
12. War/Anti-War - overly sentimental
